Now accepting applications for the 2019 Summer Cohort (June 17-August 8, 2019). Spots are limited to seven specialists-in-training.
Our courses are specifically designed to meet the standards of the internationally recognized credentialing organizations and to provide teachers with the high quality training and experience that students everywhere deserve. All coursework and direct supervision align with the revised 2018 IDA Knowledge and Practice Standards for Teachers of Reading and are conducted by Karen Sonday, MA. Ms. Sonday is a Fellow of the Academy of Orton Gillingham Practitioners and Educators (AOGPE).
Associate Level Part 1 is appropriate for anyone teaching students ranging from pre-reading through 5th grade level skills. It includes the theory and practical components needed to implement the OG approach with a high degree of fidelity. It is not necessary to take Associate Level Part 2 to be qualified to work with students individually or in small groups within classrooms, resource rooms or one to one settings.
Training for this kit will be provided in 2 stages (lecture and practicum). Stage 1: Lecture--Each course begins with a 6-hour seminar in which we'll take you step by step through that particular program in a structured, sequential way. We'll provide you with demonstrations of techniques and hands on practice. Stage 2: Virtual Coaching--4 virtual coaching sessions via Skype or FaceTime where we can observe you with your student in real time and provide feedback. We recommend the first coaching session take place after about 2 weeks of practicing and then every 2 weeks thereafter.
